Travel information
How to reach Ottawa?
By Air
- Ottawa MacDonald-Cartier International Airport (YOW) – 15 km – www.ottawa-airport.ca
- Montreal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL) – 200 km – www.admtl.com
The most convenient way of getting to Ottawa is the Ottawa airport (YOW); however, most international flights will require connections via Montreal (YUL) or Toronto (YYZ). Air Canada does offer direct flights from Heathrow and Frankfurt.
Taxi service to the Lord Elgin is estimated to be $35.
Ottawa public transit (www.octranspo.com) offers bus service to downtown. The number 97 bus leaves the airport approximately every 15 minutes and it takes about 30 minutes to get downtown. Get off the bus at Albert/Metcalfe exit and you are a short distance to the Lord Elgin Hotel. Walk north-east on Albert (opposite of the direction of traffic) to Elgin Street. Turn right (south-east) and walk two blocks to the entrance of the Lord Elgin (total distance 300 m). The bus fare is $3.00 and exact change is required.
By Train
Train travel is possible between Montreal and Ottawa (www.viarail.ca). The train runs about 4 times per day each way. Advanced books are as low as $25 one-way while full fare is $50. I have been told that it is possible to book an electronic ticket, but you must provide a north american phone number. I have also been told that you can make up the phone number (e.g. 613-543-1234) and it will accept this and allow you to buy a ticket. Train travel is also possible from Toronto to Ottawa, however, this is about a 5 hour trip and air travel is recommended.Taxi service to the Lord Elgin is estimated to be $20.
